A continuing saga of middle age angst and self-deprecation. As I approach the 50 year mark of my life I am zeroing in on what I actually like to do, as opposed to what I must do. And, I must say, it is ABOUT DAMN TIME!!
While I am sure there are fans of guitarists from such bands as Korn, Linkin Park, Limp Bizkit, etc. I would submit that there
those, like myself, that can remember the art of a true live performing artist. In no particular order I submit the following:

Brian May. Jimmy Page. Ace Frehley. Eric Clapton. Pete Townshend. Steve Hackett. Tony Iommi. Eddie Van Halen.
Mark Farner. Robert Fripp. Andy Summers. Jeff Lynne. Terry Kath. Kerry Livgren. Tom Morello. Billy Gibbons. Zakk Wylde.
Randy Rhoads. David Gilmour. Alvin Lee.

I am sure to expand on this later.

Joe Satriani, Steve Vai, Dimebag Darryl. While I would agree that most of your list are fine musicians, not all would fit into the
category of "performing artist", that is, someone you would see playing and be totally amazed at what they were able to do.
Kurt Cobain for example. Great songwriter, fine musician, but not the type to blow the roof off the arena during a guitar solo. Dave Grohl, as well-rocks the house, but not in the same category. Angus Young, the Edge, Johnny Winter-now that's the idea. Lou
Reed, I would say is a great lyricist, a great presence, but not a guitar god.

Have to agree with you there. It seems that everything I've ever heard from The Velvet Underground, I liked better when someone else covered it.
